Powering Vodacom’s Midrand Campus with a Landmark Solar Project

At Enlit Africa, Next Renewable Generation (NrG) showcased one of its flagship commercial renewable energy projects, a 6.2MW solar PV installation delivered for Vodacom at its Midrand campus.

Completed ahead of schedule in just 14 months, the project spans 13 sub-projects across the site, including rooftop systems and bespoke solar carports. The installation now supplies approximately 25 percent of the campus’s annual electricity demand, delivering meaningful cost savings while significantly reducing carbon emissions. As the largest on-site solar installation within the Vodafone Group globally, the project stands as a strong example of how large-scale, on-site renewables can be delivered reliably and at pace.

The milestone was further recognised when NrG was named Standard Bank Group Project Manager of the Year, acknowledging the team’s delivery excellence, technical innovation, and long-term contribution to sustainable infrastructure across the region.

Kayema receives SAEE ‘Energy Company Of The Year’ award 2010

Solar water heating solution provider Kayema Energy Solutions was awarded the “Energy Company Of The Year” award, at the South African Association For Energy Efficiency (SAEE) yearly banquet in Johannesburg. Kayema was nominated by Energy Cybernetics as a candidate.

“This is a testament to us for going above and beyond, and is something all our team can celebrate having played their part in winning,” said Kayema GM James Shirley, who accepted the award. The solar water heating system at the Legacy hotel consists of 117 2-kWh flat panel collectors, and is capable of preheating 30 000 l of water before it enters the hotel’s electrical heating system, which is expected to reduce the electricity usage by about 60%.
