Project Overview

  • Project Type: Energy Audit resulting in VSD’s, compressor efficiency and heat recovery.
  • Location: Midrand, Johannesburg
  • Completion: April 2015
  • Category: FMCG
A thorough investigation of the energy sources used at the largest Coca-cola bottler in Africa was conducted. The energy intensive site’s electricity and coal consumption showed many opportunities, including demand management, variable speed drive (VSD) installations, conceptual changes to the compressed air system and heat recovery. Fuel and tariff switching were also considered and a cost-benefit analysis presented. Comprehensive benchmarking tools and guidelines were provided so that further energy management and monitoring can be incorporated into the site’s current systems. Ultimately, ABI has the potential to save 16% of electricity and costs and a further 8% on coal. The outcome of the audit was a detailed investigation into effectively using renewable energy to offset rising energy costs, which is on-going.
