How a 589kWp solar PPA is helping Bimbo QSR cut energy costs, ensure supply reliability, and stay focused on what they do best.

Next Renewable Generation (NrG) has successfully implemented a solar photovoltaic (PV) Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) at the Bimbo QSR South Africa’s Bellvillle facility in Cape Town.

The 589 kilowatt-peak (kWp) PV power plant was built, funded, and is owned by NrG, with the energy produced supplied to Bimbo QSR South Africa, part of Bimbo QSR, a global bakery company serving the Quick Service Restaurant channel, on a per kilowatt-hour basis. The installation makes full use of the available roof space across the facility and now supplies approximately 30% of the Bellville facility’s total electricity requirements. The installation was contracted to the Genergy team, who delivered the project ahead of schedule and on budget, a testament to their capability and professionalism.

This marks the second Solar PV PPA within Bimbo QSR South Africa’s operations, and their first with NrG.  The project reflects the growing role of renewable energy solutions in helping commercial and industrial businesses improve energy resilience, manage electricity costs, and support more sustainable operations.

The PPA model offers a compelling solution for businesses looking to access renewable energy while keeping capital focused on their core operations. Through this approach, businesses can benefit from clean, cost-effective energy while continuing to invest in growth and long-term business priorities.

For Bimbo QSR South Africa, the project supports its ongoing efforts to advance renewable energy across its operations and reflects the value of strong partnerships in bringing sustainability initiatives to life.
